​The 2017 ICN Annual Conference is hosted by the Portuguese Competition Authority.
ICN is an informal network of competition agencies that focus on the enforcement of competition law, where non-governmental advisors - including international organizations such as UNCTAD (Competition and Consumer Policies Branch) and the OECD, business associations, consumer organizations, academics and practitioners - also participate.


UNCTAD is intervening as a speaker in the Plenary session "An Outside View on Key Factors for Effective Agencies" (Thursday, 11 May), in a side session in Portuguese on "The building blocks of an effective competition policy (Thursday, 11 May), in the Breakout sessions on "International Cooperation" (Wednesday, 10 May) and "Staff Training" (Friday, 12 May). UNCTAD will also speak on "Compliance" in the Pre-ICN Forum "New Trends in Global Competition Policy", organized by ICC, IBA and the World Bank (Tuesday, 9 May) and is jointly organizing a side-event with the Japan Fair Trade Commission on "Challenges for SMEs in specific markets: bargaining power abuse in the food retail sector and other sectors (Wednesday, 10 May).
