International Conference: Best Practices for Financial Consumer Protection: Regulation and Cooperation in the Digital Economy

​UNCTAD speaks at the World Bank International Conference on best practices for financial consumer protection.

The Joint Project of the Russian Federation and the World Bank “Financial Education and Financial Literacy” aimes to improve financial consumer protection and financial literacy in Russia. One of the Project's main objectives consists in developing financial literacy strategy and financial literacy and consumer protection monitoring and evaluation system.
 
In this context, the World Bank and the Russian Federation organize the International Conference on Best Practices for Financial Consumer Protection: Regulation and Cooperation in the Digital Economy
The Federal Service on Customer’s Rights Protection and Human Well-being Surveillance (Rospotrebnadzor) of the Russian Federation and the World Bank host the International Conference on Best Practices for Financial Consumer Protection: Regulation and Cooperation in the Digital Economy on 25 and 26 September 2018.
 
Ms. Ana Popova, Head of Rospotrebnadzor, will open the event which will gather representatives of the World Bank, UNCTAD, OECD, CGAP, EAEU, CIS, the Ministry of Finance of the Russian Federation, the Bank of Russia, financial market stakeholders, consumer associations and other experts to discuss amendments to regulations on financial consumer protection in the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) countries, consumer protection in e-commerce and personal data protection, principles of codification of consumer protection legislation, as well as the best practices of informing and advising consumers of financial services.
 
The events will reflect on the issues of over-indebtedness and the participation of consumer associations in financial consumer protection. UNCTAD will share the international experience on consumer protection in financial services, in light of the revised United Nations Guidelines for Consumer Protection. UNCTAD serves as focal point on consumer protection matters within the United Nations family, and the revised Guidelines of 2015 contain state-of-the-art recommendations on the protection of consumers’ rights and interests in financial services directed towards Governments, businesses, consumer groups and other interested stakeholders.
