Description:
The UNCTAD/IDRC publication on Competition Provisions in Regional Trade Agreements: How to ensure development gains will be disseminated during the seminar.

The aim of this seminar is to review the progress achieved since the launching of this book at the Fifth UN Conference to Review all Aspects of the UN Set on Competition held in Antalya, Turkey in November 2005. In this connection, the discussion will focus on the following questions:

  • Have the over 146 agreements that contain commitments on competition policies with implications at both national and regional levels been implemented so far?

  • Can Competition and Regional Trade Agreements ensure growth, equity and poverty alleviation?

  • Is there a role for competition policy in the energy sector?

  • How can regional competition law and policy contribute to an effective implementation of a Regional Trade Agreement?

  • The impact of Competition-related provisions in Regional Trade Agreements on domestic competition law and policy: harmonization and policy transfer effects.

The expected participants to this seminar include experts and academic involved in trade and competition issues, authors of the above-mentioned publication, and participants from competition agencies, regional and international organizations.
