Programme Events
Event: JITAP High-level Workshop of the Inter-Institutional Committees on the Doha Negotiations
Date: 24–28 July 2006
Location: Geneva
Description:

The Joint Integrated Technical Assistance Programme JITAP is a combined initiative between UNCTAD, the WTO, and ITC to help selected Least Developed and other African countries benefit from the Multilateral Trading System.

One of the key objectives of the second phase of JITAP (JITAP II) is to develop the institutional capacity of beneficiary countries to:

  • participate effectively in WTO negotiations;
  • implement WTO agreements, and
  • formulate related trade policy.

In pursuit of this objective, "JITAP Module 1" activities support the strengthening of the Inter-Institutional Committees (IICs) in each beneficiary country as the key institution for national consultations and elaboration of negotiations priorities and strategies.

The Workshop will address the state of play in the post-Hong Kong phase of WTO Doha negotiations and the key issues facing JITAP countries, which the IICs could help address.  More >>
