UNCTAD´s Secretary-General announced a Carbon Neutral Initiative for the trade and development organization in a memo to staff on 28 August 2007. Supachai Panitchpakdi said an expert would conduct an in-house greenhouse gas (GHG) inventory on UNCTAD´s carbon footprint related to its operations, stating the total of emissions in units of carbon dioxide (CO2) equivalent.

A carbon mitigation strategy will be developed by the end of 2007.
