29 July 08 - UNCTAD Secretariat publishes its 2008 Statistics Handbook
The UNCTAD secretariat on 29 July published the UNCTAD Handbook of Statistics 2008. The Handbook provides a broad range of statistics relevant to the analysis of international trade, investment and development, covering individual countries, regions and the world at large.
The UNCTAD Handbook of Statistics 2008 presents consolidated reference statistics considered of particular importance for describing how developing countries have evolved in the context of globalization.
Among the topics covered in this year´s Handbook are:
The international merchandise trade, with the most recent 2007 data available, including breakdowns of exports and imports for major products;
International trade in services;
Commodity prices, including long-term series and calculations on the instability of prices, and a special focus given to the production and consumption of aluminium and copper;
International finance, with balance-of-payments statistics and special attention to foreign direct investment, workers´ remittances, international reserves, official financial flows, and external debt - all topics of major importance; and
Development indicators linked to national accounts and population data.
