 The African Oil, Gas and Minerals Trade and Finance Conference and Exhibition is an annual forum for sharing experiences and debating topical issues relating to the extractive industries, such as: investment and finance; legal and regulatory issues; revenue and resource management; energy security; technology; and local participation.
The objective of the conference is to provide a platform for high-level policy dialogue between producers and consumers, investors and host countries and other stakeholders.
The conferences play a crucial role in helping to identify and assess investment opportunities and challenges in Africa´s extractive industries as well as appropriate policies and legal frameworks to promote the continued development of the energy and mining sectors on the continent and to enhance their contributions to African development.
The central theme of this year´s conference is "Natural Resources for Development".
The programme will cover topical issues such as negotiation of exploration contract, strategic regional storages, promotion of liquefied natural gas (LNG) and Liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), as well as a mini workshop on African Petroleum Services and Safety (APSS). This workshop is geared towards building a competitive local services industry in Africa´s rapidly growing petroleum industry.
The conference is expected to attract up to 600 participants, including key decision-makers; investors; executives of major and small oil companies as well as mining companies.
This is the 12th conference organized by UNCTAD on the African continent since 1996. Previous locations include: Zimbabwe (1996 and 1997), Ivory Coast (1998), Namibia (1999), Ghana (2000), Cameroon (2002), Angola (2003), Morocco (2004), Mozambique (2005), Algeria (2006), Kenya (2007).
