The Commission on Science and Technology for Development (CSTD) is a subsidiary body of the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC). The Commission provides the General Assembly and ECOSOC with high-level advice on relevant science and technology issues.
UNCTAD is responsible for the substantive servicing of the Commission.


30 May 08 - The 11th Session of the Commission of Science and Technology for Development was completed on 30th May, 2008 in Geneva, Switzerland with the successful adoption by consensus of one draft resolution and three decisions for submission to ECOSOC for its consideration at its forthcoming substantive session scheduled to take place in New York in July 2008.


10 October 07 - The UNCTAD Secretariat has prepared two information notes detailing the terms and procedures for the participation of non-governmental organizations, civil society entities and business sector entities in the work of the CSTD.


26 April 07 - The Economic and Social Council approved two decisions for participation by non-governmental organizations, civil society entities and the business sector entities - including the private sector - in the 10th session of the CSTD.


29 March 07 - "Promoting the building of a people-centred, development-oriented and inclusive information society" is the theme of this year´s session of the Commission on Science and Technology for Development. The meeting will be held in Geneva from 21 to 25 May.


12 May 06 - The role of the Commission on Science and Technology for Development in the follow-up to the World Summit on the Information Society will be discussed at this year´s commission meeting. The outcome of the discussions will be submitted to the Economic and Social Council.


12 May 06 - The Economic and Social Council has called a special meeting to review the role of the Commission on Science and Technology for Development following the World Summit on the Information Society in November 2005. The meeting will take place on 16 May 2006.
