Multi-year Expert Meeting on Investment, Innovation and Entrepreneurship for Productive Capacity-building and Sustainable Development, sixth session

Harnessing science, technology and innovation, closing technology gaps and scaling up capacity-building at all levels are essential for the achievement of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

This represents a serious challenge for many developing countries. Effectively harnessing science, technology and innovation involves identifying, accessing, adopting, adapting, and using a vast range of technologies.

This session of the multi-year expert meeting could consider options and recommendations to:

• Promote effective international and national policies to harness science, technology, innovation and entrepreneurship as an effective means of implementation of the sustainable development goals

• Leverage new approaches to innovation such as digitally enabled open, collaborative innovation, inclusive innovation, social innovation and grass-roots innovation

• Benefit from experiences and lessons learned from international partnerships for technological learning and development, in order to promote access to technologies by developing countries

Participation

This meeting is open to all member States of UNCTAD. Other organizations, including specialized agencies, intergovernmental bodies and non-governmental organizations in the general and special categories, as well as academia, research institutions and the private sector, may participate as observers.

Contributions from Experts

Experts are encouraged to prepare and submit brief papers (5-12 pages) related to the issues contained in the provisional agenda. These papers will be made available at the meeting in the form and language in which they are received.
