22 September - The number of international investment agreements (IIAs) continued to grow between the beginning of 2007 and June 2008, but at a slower rate compared to the previous years, with the slowdown mostly attributed to a decline in new bilateral investment treaties (BITs). During the period, a marked variation in the number of concluded IIAs was observed among regions with recent treaty-making activity concentrated mostly in Asia.

The report highlights the importance of introducing innovative traits and approaches with respect to such provisions with a view to strengthen the development dimension of IIAs.
