Celebration of the World Bee Day

20 May 2021
09:00 - 16:00 hrs.
Online

The event aims to raise awareness of the importance of pollinators, the threats they face and their contribution to sustainable development.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Slovenia in collaboration with the Creative Economy programme of UNCTAD produced a video to promote creativity for sustainability on the occasion of the UN World Bee day on 20 May.

The video showcases artists that use their creativity to bring solutions to the construction of honeycombs as well as the promotion of urban pollination. The first video, for example, is a short clip by artist Tomas Libertiny, who shows how bees help him to create sculptures that will last thousand of years. It depends on the weather, the biodiversity and as Tomas Libertiny puts it, on whether “the queen bee gives permission for the bees to use the structures” that he creates.
