Meeting with Colombian companies on sustainability/SDG reporting

UNCTAD and the Colombian Institute of Corporate Governance (ICGC) held a virtual meeting on 11 September 2020 to present the Development Account 11th Tranche Project titled Enabling policy frameworks for enterprise sustainability and SDG reporting in Africa and Latin America and UNCTAD’s Guidance on core indicators on entity reporting on contribution towards implementation of the SDGs (GCI).

The objective of the event was to present the rationale and objectives of the project, as well as, the activities conducted at the national level in Colombia in 2019 and 2020, which included a kick off meeting, a thorough assessment of the sustainability/SDG reporting infrastructure in Colombia, a national consultative workshop, the development and presentation of a national action plan and capacity building workshops on the core SDG indicators. In addition, UNCTAD tools and in particular its GCI were featured. The presentation allowed participants to understand the development process and fundamentals of the core SDG indicators and become familiar with them with a focus on institutional indicators which include corporate governance and anti-corruption metrics.

The meeting was attended by the Colombian Stock Exchange and CEOs and senior staff from around 20 companies which are members of the ICGC’s network such as Ecopetrol, Carvajal, Grupo Argos, Grupo Energia Bogota, etc. 

The meeting allowed to raise awareness of UNCTAD’s activities and of the findings and recommendations of the project. In addition, it promoted implementation of the core SDG indicators.
