​Meeting of UNCTAD with the members of IDEC, Instituto Brasileiro de Defesa do Consumidor (Brazilian Institute for Consumer Protection, a non-profit consumer association, independent of companies, parties or governments. Founded in 1987 by a group of volunteers to guide, raise awareness, defend ethics in the relationship of consumption and for the rights of consumers-citizens.

Official meeting of UNCTAD representatives with the members of IDEC, Instituto Brasileiro de Defesa do Consumidor (Brazilian Institute for Consumer Protection, a non-profit consumer association, independent of companies, parties or governments. Founded in 1987 by a group of volunteers to guide, raise awareness, defend ethics in the relationship of consumption and for the rights of consumers-citizens.

The meeting will be held at the IDEC headquarters with the presence of its Honorary President and founder, Mrs Marilena Lazzarini.
 
In Resolution 70/186 of 22 December 2015 the General Assembly revised the United Nations Guidelines for Consumer Protection and entrusted UNCTAD with the mandate to serve as focal point within the United Nations on this issue. For the first time, the Guidelines contain a set of recommendations to businesses, so as to improve their practices in relation to consumers and strengthen consumer protection regimes with the participation of Governments, businesses and consumer groups.
