The Port Management Series features case studies produced as part of UNCTAD's TrainForTrade port management programme. Nearly 80% of world trade is carried by sea.

For many developing countries, the figure surpasses 90%. Port efficiency therefore has a direct impact on a country’s ability to participate in international trade.

UNCTAD assists ports in developing countries by conducting research, carrying out technical assistance activities and providing training and capacity-building through the TrainForTrade programme, a key component of which is the case studies that participants conduct on a specific problem faced by their port.

The process requires that the participants put into practice what they have learned from the port management course and allows them to immediately contribute to improving operations in their ports.

This edition of the series presents fifteen case studies done by programme participants from ports in Ghana, Indonesia, Malaysia, Nigeria and the Philippines. The issues analyzed include the digitalization of administrative processes, environmental protection, human resources management and vessel traffic services.

The event will showcase some of the best case studies and is open to the public.
