Side Event at the High-level Political Forum 2022: Promoting partnership and digitalization in the creative economy

From survival to thriving in the post-pandemic recovery

UNCTAD and the Government of Indonesia are organizing the side event “Promoting Partnership and Digitalization in the Creative Economy: From Survival to Thriving in the Post-Pandemic Recovery” in the context of the High-Level Political Forum 2022 under the auspices of ECOSOC.

The side event will result in a positive contribution to enhancing international cooperation by facilitating constructive discussion and exchange of views on ways and policy options to strengthen the creative economy towards a more inclusive, resilient, and innovative sustainable development pathway.

Objectives:

• To identify various impacts of COVID-19 on creative economy sectors, especially for SMEs as well as women and youth as creative economy actors, and steps to be taken to overcome these challenges;
• To learn best practices promoting lifelong learning opportunities to refine skills and knowledge for all in making the best use of digital technologies in the creative economy sectors; and
• To formulate policy recommendations to enhance international cooperation in advancing and strengthening the capacity of creative economy sectors through digital transformation and making them more impactful in achieving sustainable development goals.

Stakeholders:

The side event is open to all participants which represent various stakeholders as follows:

• Governments;
• International organizations;
• Community: Creative scenes, creative hubs, creative economy sectors;
• Academics;
• Civil society organizations; and
• Media and others.

Building on the foundation of the International Year of Creative Economy for Sustainable Development in 2021 is key for the international community to pursue collaboration that provides real impact to creative economy actors, among others by encouraging, facilitating, and supporting their digital transformation. This side event contributes to this effort.
