UNCTAD at First WSIS+10 Review Meeting Towards Knowledge Societies for Peace and Sustainable Development

2013-02-25_WSIS.jpgAs part of the overall process to review the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS), the First WSIS+10 Review Event is hosted by UNESCO at its Headquarters in Paris.

It is open to all individuals and organizations interested in contributing to advancing the WSIS targets.

The outcome of this event will feed into the UN General Assembly WSIS and MDG reviews in 2015. Together with ITU, UNDP and UNESCO, UNCTAD is a co-organizer of this event and will participate in several sessions:

Monday 25 February
8:45-9:30UNCTAD Secretary-General, Supachai Panitchpakdi, will chair the 9th UNGIS High Level Meeting and hand over the Chairmanship of the United Nations Group on the Information Society (UNGIS) to the UNESCO Director-General, Irina Bokova. The meeting is by invitation only.
9:30-10:00UNCTAD Secretary-General Supachai Panitchpakdi will deliver a welcome address at the Opening Ceremony of the WSIS+10 Review Meeting. Conference Room 1.
Tuesday 26 February
9:30-11:00Together with Germany's GIZ and the World Information Technology and Services Alliance (WITSA), UNCTAD co-organizes a session on Improving Access to Data on the Information Technology Sector. Conference Room 8.
11:05-12:30UNCTAD co-organizes with the International Trade Centre (ITC) and the Universal Postal Union (UPU) a session on eBusiness Facilitation: Lessons from the First 8 Years. Conference Room 8.
14:30-18:00The Partnership on Measuring ICT for Development, of which UNCTAD is a member, organizes a session on Building Inclusive Knowledge-Based Societies through ICT. Conference Room 12.
Wednesday 27 February
14:30-16:00UNCTAD contributes to the panel of a session entitled Towards a Gender Responsive Knowledge Society. Conference Room 11.
16:05-17:30The Director of the UNCTAD Division on Technology and Logistics, Anne Miroux, will participate as a speaker in the plenary closing session. Conference Room 1.
