UNCTAD organized a workshop with the Cooperation and Capacity Development (CCD) Department of the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) and with the Islamic Center for the Development of Trade (ICDT) on “New Approaches to International Investment Agreements in Africa” on 30-31 January 2024 in Casablanca, Morocco.

The workshop is part of an ongoing programme of cooperation between IsDB and UNCTAD on issues related to international investment agreements and investor-state disputes. It explored the latest trends and developments in investment policies, specifically focusing on the African region. It provided valuable insights into the ongoing reforms of international investment agreements (IIAs) and investment facilitation in Africa. Experts from various organizations shared their knowledge and expertise on this important subject. The workshop offered a platform for networking and the exchange of experiences for officials who oversee investment policy issues in IsDB Member Countries.

Agenda: The workshop included a dedicated session on the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) Investment Protocol. It covered global trends and best practices in international investment policymaking, including in relation to climate action, health and taxation.
