17 - 18 December 2018
Room XXVI
Geneva
, Switzerland

The UNCTAD MENA Programme on regional economic integration through the adoption of competition and consumer protection policies in the North Africa and Middle East (MENA) region, funded by the Government of Sweden, has been implemented from January 2015 until December 2018. It is hosting its Final Review Meeting from 17 to 18 December 2018 in Room XXVI of the Palais des Nations in Geneva, Switzerland.

The aim of the meeting is to review the activities and products developed for this project and to assess the impact that the UNCTAD MENA Programme has had on beneficiary countries and on deepening regional cooperation.

UNCTAD will present the outcome of the MENA Programme activities during the period 2015-2018. It will also present the latest tools and products of 2018, namely: the UNCTAD MENA website; the train-the-trainers programme on competition and consumer protection; and the cooperation agreement on competition and consumer protection among universities of MENA countries. The meeting will host two substantive sessions: ‘Mainstreaming Gender in competition and consumer protection policies;’ and ‘Competition, consumer protection and regulation.’ The meeting will also address the sustainability of the MENA Programme activities upon closure of the SIDA-funded activities.

The UNCTAD MENA Programme invites Heads of consumer protection and competition national authorities, focal points and permanent representatives in Geneva of UNCTAD MENA beneficiary countries (Algeria, Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco, Tunisia and State of Palestine) and representatives of the donor country, Sweden, to attend the meeting.

The Final Review Meeting will benefit from simultaneous interpretation in Arabic, English and French.
