Gyekye Tanoh, Head of Political Economy Unit at Third World Network-Africa, to join discussion at UNCTAD Public Symposium (24-25 June)

17 June 2013

"African citizens and CSOs welcome the 4th UNCTAD Public Forum for the opportunity it may afford to genuinely influence and shape the emerging International Development agenda, for which the post-2015 process is a pivotal milestone." Gyekye Tanoh

Mr. Tanoh will participate in the debate on Trade and Investment Rules for Inclusive and Sustainable Development, on the second day of the Symposium (25 June).

The UNCTAD Public Forum is emerging as a vital site for new possibilities for development policy. For actors and popular interests in developing countries, it is of immense value for building on the kind of orientation signalled by UNCTAD's critique of 'finance-led globalization' and the alternatives that are now imperative. International governance processes that preclude real alternatives can only purport to be platforms for partnership and for making people's legitimate needs and voices heard by perpetrating a crude and cruel deception.

Nearly six years into a deep and protracted global economic turmoil, alternatives are now more vital than ever, especially for the most vulnerable in the prevailing global order.
