The UNCTAD Public Forum is emerging as a vital site for new possibilities for development policy. For actors and popular interests in developing countries, it is of immense value for building on the kind of orientation signalled by UNCTAD's critique of 'finance-led globalization' and the alternatives that are now imperative. International governance processes that preclude real alternatives can only purport to be platforms for partnership and for making people's legitimate needs and voices heard by perpetrating a crude and cruel deception.
Nearly six years into a deep and protracted global economic turmoil, alternatives are now more vital than ever, especially for the most vulnerable in the prevailing global order.

Gyekye Tanoh
Mr. Tanoh is Head of the Political Economy Unit at Third World Network-Africa, where he conducts research and advocacy on globalization, trade and development. He is a regular contributor to African Trade Agenda and a number of other publications on a wide range of subjects considering the impacts of globalization issues in Africa.
He is also Deputy National Coordinator of the Ghana Coalition Against Privatization.
