ITU Secretary-General Hamadoun Touré sends anniversary greeting to UNCTAD as the organization marks its first half-century of finding solutions for sustainable development.

Anniversary greeting from ITU Secretary-General Hamadoun Touré to UNCTAD Secretary-General Mukhisa Kituyi

I extend my warmest felicitations to you on the 50th anniversary of UNCTAD.

Since 1964, UNCTAD has created an international framework for equitable trade practices that have, in particular, assisted developing countries to export their products overseas at competitive rates. By bringing together major players in the investment community at gatherings such as the World Investment Forum, UNCTAD has successfully created a climate conducive to new entrepreneurial opportunities that benefit all partners, in both developed and developing countries.

In formulating policies relating to all aspects of development including trade, aid, transport, finance and technology, UNCTAD has provided a much needed forum for developing countries to put forward a strong case for economic development.

Over the years, UNCTAD has succeeded in achieving a more equitable balance in the global economy, and this has created a sound foundation as we move towards achieving sustainable development in the post-2015 era.

I wish you and UNCTAD all success in the coming years.
