New merchandise trade indicators added to UNCTADstat

Bilateral concentration and comparative diversification indices measure products dependencies to specific market and compare countries' trade structures, respectively.

Bilateral concentration indices of merchandise exports and imports measure products dependencies to specific market giving information on the number of exported/imported products by country. The index shows how exports and imports of individual countries or group of countries are concentrated on several products or otherwise distributed in a more homogeneous manner among a series of products.

Comparative diversification indices of merchandise exports and imports compare countries' trade structures indicating whether a trade structure of two economies are similar or not. It is computed by measuring absolute deviation of product shares among countries.

The data cover the period 1995-2012 for more than 120 economic/trade groups and over 175 economies.The data are updated twice a year: in June and October.
