Successful conclusion to UNCTAD's second course on non-tariff measures

28 July 2015

The second edition of the online course on non-tariff measures, developed in cooperation between the Virtual Institute and UNCTAD's Division on International Trade in Goods and Services, and Commodities concluded July 19, awarding 58 participants the UNCTAD Non-Tariff Measures Data Collector Certificate.

The graduates, coming from academic institutions and governments in 39 countries (including 11 Least Developed Countries), will become part of UNCTAD's roster of Non-Tariff Measures (NTMs) Data Collectors.

Post-course evaluation questionnaires confirm that the course both increased participants' knowledge of NTMs and helped them better appreciate the NTM-related policy issues facing their countries.

Results:

  • 93% of participants found the knowledge acquired during the online course extremely or very much contributed to deepen participants' understanding of NTM.

  • 90% of participants found the knowledge acquired during the online course extremely or very much helped them understand the policy issues that their countries face in international trade.

"I am very happy to be able to participate in this course. It helps me enlarge my knowledge on NTMs classification and Data collection. I do hope that in the future I could participate in other courses similar to this one." wrote one of the participants, while a fellow student concluded that: "I am satisfied with all aspects of the course."
