Following the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding in July 2015, UNCTAD and TradeMark East Africa (TMEA) agreed to deepen their cooperation. With financing from TMEA, the two institutions will jointly implement a number of concrete projects for the benefit of the members of the East African Community (EAC).
The activities to be implemented over the next two years will support the implementation of the WTO Trade Facilitation Agreement, trade portals to increase the transparency of foreign trade procedures and capacity building to enhance the role of women in cross border trade in the EAC. The joint project will cover national and regional activities. The agreement was signed during UNCTAD @MC10 side event on "Reaping the Benefits from Trade Facilitation" in Nairobi, Kenya. It was signed by UNCTAD's Secretary-General Mukhisa Kituyi and the Chief Executive Officer of TradeMark East Africa, Frank Matsaert.
