Benedicto Fonseca, Chair of the CSTD Working Group on Enhanced Cooperation invites all stakeholders to submit their contributions to the second meeting of the group, scheduled to take place on 26-27 January 2017.
The General Assembly, at its 70th session, undertook a comprehensive review of the ten-year implementation of the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS).
In the outcome document of the review, resolution A/70/125 of 16 December 2015, the Assembly requested the Chair of the Commission on Science and Technology for Development (CSTD), through the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), to establish a working group to develop recommendations on how to further implement enhanced cooperation as envisioned in the Tunis Agenda, taking into consideration the work that has been done on this matter.
The General Assembly requested the group to report to the CSTD at its twenty-first session in 2018.
The Working Group was established by the Chair of the CSTD on 3 May 2016.
The proposal on the structure and composition of the Working Group was noted by ECOSC in its resolution 2016/22 of 27 July 2016, on the assessment of the progress made in the implementation of and follow-up to the WSIS outcomes.
The Working Group met on 30 September 2016, and agreed on two questions that would guide the second meeting of the group, scheduled to take place on 26-27 January 2017.
What are the high level characteristics of enhanced cooperation?
Taking into consideration the work of the previous WGEC and the Tunis Agenda, particularly paragraphs 69-71, what kind of recommendations should we consider?
In this connection, I invite all stakeholders to submit their contributions to these two questions by email to the CSTD Secretariat (stdev@unctad.org).
All contributions will be made available on this website in their original language for consideration by the Working Group unless requested otherwise.
