FDI FLOWS UP TO BRUNEI DARUSSALAM, DOWN TO CAMBODIA

Geneva, Switzerland, 10 October 2003

FDI flows to Brunei Darussalam surged in 2002, up from $527 million in 2001 to $1.036 billion. Gas and oil activities dominated the flows, for which the largest investors have been the developed countries since 1998.

Global downturn and weak FDI flows from the ASEAN countries and the Asian newly industrialized economies contributed to the continued decline in FDI flows to Cambodia, particularly since the Asian financial crisis. Flows were down 64% last year, from $148 million in 2001.

National investment profiles are being published online as they become available, based on each country´s reporting schedules. The profiles, which are part of UNCTAD´s World Investment Directory, provide quick electronic access to the latest statistics on foreign direct investment (FDI) and the operations of transnational corporations (TNCs). They include statistical definitions and sources, a listing of relevant national laws and regulations, information on bilateral and multilateral agreements and a bibliography.
