NEW WEBSITE FOR TRADE POINTS

Geneva, Switzerland, 18 February 2003

The World Trade Point Federation inaugurates its new website, a global e-business marketplace for trade support services, in Geneva´s Palais des Nations, Wednesday, 19 February at 4:30 p.m.

The Federation is aimed at opening markets to new actors and making these actors more competitive by giving them access to more advanced e-commerce technologies and information networks. Its activities are targeted primarily at small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in structurally and geographically disadvantaged developing countries. The Federation comprises 125 trade information and facilitation centres, or Trade Points, in 82 countries. Visit the new website for Trade Points.

The Trade Point Programme was originally established by UNCTAD in 1992. Once it became fully operational, it was turned over to its beneficiaries, represented by the Federation, which was founded in November 2002.

Cooperation between UNCTAD and the Federation will continue through training courses for SME clients, information dissemination and participation in UNCTAD expert groups.
