UNCTAD, CANARY ISLANDS SIGN MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING TO SUPPORT TRAINING AND CAPACITY-BUILDING

Geneva, Switzerland, 2 December 2002

Representatives of the Cabildo de Gran Canaria and of the Chamber of Commerce and the Port Authority of Las Palmas (Spain) have signed a memorandum of understanding with UNCTAD to implement joint training and capacity-building activities for developing countries.

These will include the organization of international and regional meetings on human resources development; financial support for training activities in Africa, Latin America and Asia, including training of trainers; and a contribution to the development of UNCTAD´s distance learning activities.

The activities will be carried out by TrainForTrade, UNCTAD´s capacity-building programme, which develops pedagogical materials in trade and trade-related areas adapted to the needs of developing countries.
