UNCTAD, LATIN AMERICAN INTEGRATION ASSOCIATION (ALADI) EXPAND MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING ON JOINT WORK

Geneva, Switzerland, 15 May 2006

The Secretaries-General of UNCTAD and the Latin American Integration Association (ALADI) signed an agreement this afternoon to expand greatly the joint work carried out by the two organizations in Latin America.

The agreement, an annex to a 2004 Memorandum of Understanding between the UNCTAD and ALADI, extends cooperation from a limited exchange of market access data to a broad range of programmes on training of governmental officials and businessmen in international investment agreements, competition laws and policies, electronic commerce, multilateral trade negotiations, and investment promotion.

The annex was signed by UNCTAD Secretary-General Supachai Panitchpaki and ALADI Secretary-General Didier Opertti at a meeting attended by Latin American Ambassadors.
