UNCTAD this month is organizing several training activities for French-speaking countries:

  • From 12 to 23 May, in Alexandria (Egypt), 22 officials from Algeria, Benin, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cameroon, Chad, Congo, Côte d´Ivoire, Djibouti, Gabon, Guinea, Guinea Bissau, Haiti, Madagascar, Mauritius, Mauritania, Niger, Sao Tome and Principe, Senegal, Togo and Tunisia will attend the course on Negotiation of International Investment Agreements delivered by UNCTAD experts via distance learning.
  • From 12 to 16 May, in Bamako (Mali), 25 officials and private sector representatives from Benin, Burkina Faso and Mali will test the course on E-commerce practices.
  • On 13 May, 20 port operators from Cameroon will begin the Port Training Programme in Conakry (Guinea). 15 local trainers will be delivering the eight-module course over a six-month period. They were trained by UNCTAD in 2000 and 2001 and are now ready to provide local training. This train-the-trainers approach ensures low costs, and increased impact of training activities and their sustainability. The programme is also being implemented in Angola, Benin, Cameroon, Cape Verde, Gabon, Senegal, Togo and Tunisia. A total of 180 port operators will be trained by local trainers this year.
