Meeting on the International Treaty on Plant Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture: Implications for Geneva-based Negotiations and National Legislation

Geneva, Switzerland. 11 Sept 2002

The purpose of this meeting was to give a briefing on the Treaty and stimulate discussion of the possible implications of the Treaty for Geneva-based negotiations, particularly those related to TRIPS and the WIPO Intergovernmental Committee on Intellectual Property and Genetic Resources, Traditional Knowledge and Folklore.

The last part of the meeting was devoted to a discussion on balancing farmers' and breeders' rights in national legislation in the context of Article 27.3(b) of the TRIPS Agreement.
