The International Consumer Protection and Enforcement Network (ICPEN) is hosting its first High Level Meeting to discuss its vision and future work.

The UN Guidelines on Consumer Protection are being revised in UNCTAD. There are new provisions on cross-border cooperation that are directly relevant to ICPEN.

There is also a proposal to create an Intergovernmental Group of Experts in Consumer Protection Law and Policy within UNCTAD, which should complement the work of ICPEN and the OECD in protecting consumers internationally.

UNCTAD will:
  • Present the latest developments in the revision process: content and extent of new provisions of the Draft Resolution for Revision of UN Guidelines for Consumer Protection
  • Seek input from consumer protection heads of agencies from Member States' governmental agencies, on the Draft Resolution for Revision of UN Guidelines for Consumer Protection
  • Discuss the possible creation of an Intergovernmental Group of Experts on Consumer Protection and its interaction with ICPEN
  • Seek consensus for proposing a resolution at 7th UN Review Conference to be latter submitted to General Assembly for approval
