The Government of Tunisia, in collaboration with the International Islamic Trade Finance Corporation and Islamic Centre for Development of Trade, will organizes a Seminar with the participation of competition authorities in member countries of the Islamic Conference Organization and experts and representatives of international and regional organizations.
UNCTAD is participating in this important event as part of its Competition and Consumer Policies Programme for the the Middle East and North Africa region (COMPAL MENA).
The objective of the event is to increase the exchange of experiences among members of the Islamic Conference Organization -- considering the growing interest on Competition Law and Policy -- and to start collaboration between regional organizations such as: (1) the League of Arab States and the Islamic Conference Organization; and (2) the Islamic Trade Finance Corporation and Islamic Centre for Development of Trade.
The seminar covers a range of topics and issues related to competition law and policy, and Islamic countries experience in these areas, with a focus on the following themes:
The relationship between competition policy and consumer protection.
The relationship between competition authorities and regulatory authorities.
The effectiveness of Competition Authorities.
Final recommendations to enhance cooperation among Islamic countries in this area.
