National consultations for the Trinidad and Tobago eTrade Readiness Assessment (eT Ready)

In the context of the eTrade Readiness Assessment (eT Ready) of Trinidad and Tobago undertaken by UNCTAD at the request of the Ministry of Trade and Industry (MTI), a series of multi-stakeholder and bilateral consultations will be organized on 19 and 20 March in Port of Spain. The eT Ready is being undertaken as a first phase of the E-commerce Strategy development project launched in January 2024 and funded by the Government of Trinidad and Tobago.

The consultations will bring together representatives of the public and private sectors as well as academia, civil society, and development partners, to discuss and gather perspectives on the main challenges and opportunities for e-commerce development in Trinidad and Tobago. They will include focus group discussions and bilateral meetings covering issues related to ICT infrastructure and services, trade facilitation and logistics, e-commerce laws and regulations, digital payments, ICT skills development and access to finance.

The eT Ready of Trinidad and Tobago is the second undertaken by UNCTAD in Latin America and Caribbean region, after Peru. The assessment will be undertaken in close collaboration with development and eTrade for all partners, including the UN Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), the Inter-American Development Bank (IABD), the International Trade Center (ITC) and others.
