UNCTAD Presents its Work on Consumer Protection at OECD Meetings

​UNCTAD will report on recent activities of the fourth session of the Intergovernmental Group on Experts on Consumer Protection Law and Policy (IGE) before the 19th meeting of the Working Party on Consumer Product Safety and the 98th session of the Committee on Consumer Policy.
In particular, UNCTAD will highlight the strong mandate emanating from the fourth session of the IGE as contained in its Agreed conclusions:

• Renewal of the mandate for Working Groups on consumer protection in e-commerce and consumer product
  safety
• Voluntary Peer Review of Peru (self-funded)
• New items for agenda of 8th UN Review Conference 2020:

 The Implementation of the UN Guidelines for Consumer Protection
 Strengthening consumer protection in the digital economy
 International enforcement cooperation among consumer protection authorities in e-commerce
 Improving consumer product safety around the world: good data for good policy
 Review of capacity building and technical assistance

UNCTAD will encourage participation in the work of the IGE, in particular in the Working Groups on consumer protection in e-commerce and consumer product safety and UNCTAD’s World Consumer Protection Map.
