Workshop on the Joint Statement Initiative on E-commerce and implications for legal reform for Kazakhstan

A two-day capacity building workshop is organized in Astana on implications of the Joint Statement Initiative (JSI) on E-commerce for legal reform in Kazakhstan from the 22-23 November 2022. The workshop will provide an overview of the main issues at stake and present recommendations for reform to facilitate e-commerce in the context of the current recommendations as per the JSI consolidated negotiating text on e-commerce.   

The workshop is part of the EU-funded Ready4Trade Central Asia Project and offers an opportunity to discuss and clarify technical components of the recommendations and their relationship with the sections of the JSI negotiating text. It is expected that the participants will provide feedback that will be used to plan the next steps of adapting and developing the national e-commerce legal framework.   

The workshop will benefit from the participation of government officials from the Republic of Kazakhstan, including Members of the Working Group created to develop recommendations on legislation on electronic commerce and paperless trade, the JSC Center for Trade Policy Development (QazTrade); representatives from the private sector; legal experts and practitioners of digital trade as well as representatives of UNCITRAL and the WTO.
