16 - 18 novembre 2016
Council of Europe
Strasbourg
, France

UNCTAD has been invited to take part in the Octopus Conference 2016 organized by the Council of Europe. UNCTAD will moderate and present the eTrade For All initiative in a workshop entitled "Seeking synergies: Initiatives of international and private sector organisations".

eTrade For All launched in Nairobi in July 2016 during the 14th  quadrennial Conference of UNCTAD. This global partnership aims to channel effective assistance to developing countries wishing to benefit from e-commerce– a market estimated by UNCTAD to be worth some $22 trillion in 2015. eTrade For All addresses the cross-cutting dimensions of e-commerce development, including legal frameworks and cybercrime. International and private sector organisations participating in the Octopus conference will be invited to join the initiative.

The Octopus Conference constitutes one of the largest platforms of exchange in cybercrime gathering experts from 80 countries, international organisations, private sector and academia.

This year's edition will celebrate the 15th anniversary of the Convention on Cybercrime of the Council of Europe known as the Budapest Convention which is the only binding international instrument on this issue. It serves as a guideline for any country developing comprehensive national legislation against Cybercrime and as a framework for international cooperation between State Parties to this treaty.
