UNCTAD Hearing with Civil Society

24 mai 2018
14:00-17:00 hrs., Palais des Nations
Geneva
, Suisse

The Hearing with Civil Society provides a platform for UNCTAD management and delegates from our member states to engage with representatives of civil society.

The Hearing will focus on the following topics:

  • New ways in which the United Nations could address the crisis of multilateralism and trade, its development machinery, and what would be the contribution of UNCTAD

  • Industrial policies and productive capacity policies for a digital economy

  • Plugging financial leakages, mobilizing domestic and international resources to deliver the SDGs

  • Building resilience to multiple shocks affecting people and sustainable development

These topics have been chosen because they will lead the high-level discussions at the annual meeting of UNCTAD's Trade and Development Board (4-12 June), which oversees our work between the ministerial conferences.

Participation

The hearing is open to staff of the United Nations, delegates of UNCTAD member states, and representatives of civil society organizations that:

If your organization does not fit into any of these categories, but has been active in our work – for example, you have been a panelist at an UNCTAD meeting, or your organization has a Memorandum of Understanding with UNCTAD or has organized an event with us  – you are welcome to register but must provide the relevant information.

Speaking at the hearing

Anyone who is eligible to attend may request to speak at the hearing.

When registering, please check the box indicating that you wish to take the floor and for which topic(s). Please note that, unfortunately, interpretation will not be available, and that English will be the language used at the hearing.

To be included on the list of speakers, you must upload an official letter of nomination if you are not the head of your organization. Such a letter is not required for those who are already a nominated representative of an organization with observer status with UNCTAD.

Since there may not be enough time for everyone to take the floor, we kindly ask all those who wish to speak to provide a written statement (see below).

Contributing written statements

All organizations that are eligible to attend the hearing may submit a written statement.  These statements will be made available on this page in the form and language in which they are received.

For more information, see: Guidelines on how to submit a written statement

Statements must be submitted to: timothy.sullivan@unctad.org (cc cso@unctad.org).

The deadline for submission is Wednesday, 16 May.
