Sharing Mining Benefits in the Energy Transition

The Intergovernmental Forum on Mining, Minerals, Metals and Sustainable Development (IGF) supports governments to advance good mining governance for the betterment of communities, economies, and the environment.

The IGF’s Annual General Meeting (AGM), hosted by UNCTAD, is the leading international forum for government officials working on mining policy.

The AGM offers a unique opportunity for policy-makers to connect with their global peers alongside actors from industry, civil society, and non-governmental and international organizations.

The theme of the 19th AGM is Sharing Mining Benefits in the Energy Transition, and the Secretariat is organizing a series of expert-led sessions seeking to answer key policy questions facing resource-rich nations this year.

  • How can community development agreements benefit communities in the long term and help build community resilience?
  • What are the key opportunities and risks for financial benefit sharing for producer countries in the energy transition?
  • How can governments support resilient supply chains for critical minerals to address the supply gap?
  • Which laws and policies will ensure the energy transition is fair, equitable, and inclusive?
  • What are the best approaches to improve mining impact assessments so that they cover gender and human rights?

Programme

A dynamic programme of themed sessions will cover the big governance issues facing mining nations and other stakeholders.

Attendees can expect to hear from key government officials from IGF member countries and a diverse roster of experts and actors from non-governmental and international organizations.
