In the context of the global economic crisis and the slowdown in foreign direct investment, the Commission will provide a unique opportunity for member States and investment and development stakeholders to discuss key and emerging investment issues and their development implications, as well as policy solutions.
The main theme of the Commission will be "creating an environment conducive to productive capacity-building".
This Commission will also provide an opportunity for policymakers, investment promotion agencies and the private sector to exchange experiences during the sessions on "investment policy reviews: lessons learned and best practices".
The Commission will also consider the reports of the:
- Multi-year Expert Meeting on Investment for Development
- Multi-year Expert Meeting on Enterprise Development Policies and Capacity-building in Science, Technology and Innovation
- Multi-year Expert Meeting on International Cooperation: South-South Cooperation and Regional Integration
- Intergovernmental Working Group of Experts on International Standards of Accounting and Reporting
The Investment, Enterprise and Development Commission was established in 2008 at UNCTAD XII.
It combines the mandate of the previous Commission on Investment, Technology and Related Financial Issues with responsibility for enterprise and information and communication technology (ICT) issues from the previous Commission on Enterprise, Business Facilitation and Development.
It is an important annual United Nations gathering of investment stakeholders worldwide, which brings together member States, investment promotion agencies, the business community, academia and civil society.
