Description:

UNCTAD supports developing countries, especially Least Developed Countries (LDCs) in their efforts to formulate strategies and policies to respond to the challenges and opportunities of commodity markets.

Objectives:

At the Eleventh WTO Ministerial Conference and in partnership with the FAO, UNCTAD will launch the Commodities and Development Report 2017: Commodity Markets,Economic Growth and Development. The report contributes to the understanding of the linkages between commodity markets and development outcomes by highlighting a number of transmission channels through which commodity prices impact the economy.​

Key Issue:

The report will highlight the avenues by which commodity prices can affect the economy and development indicators.The report analyses commodity sectors – energy, minerals and agricultural – in developing countries, the corresponding commodity policies and their impact on economic growth and development, income distribution, poverty and food security with a particular emphasis on commodity-dependent developing countries.
